The versatile CLOUD dress and ruffle top invite you to experiment with adding and removing tiers. By only joining the first tier, you can create a top, a midi dress with two tiers, or a floor-length dress with a third tier. The CLOUD pattern is ideal for beginners because it will teach you how to make gathers and how to sew a neckline facing.
Recommended Fabric: Cloud works best in non-stretch, light to medium weight woven fabrics. The designer prefers a stiff cotton fabric for this piece as it can hold its voluminous shape. Choose a rayon/viscose fabric if you want a more romantic, flowy look. You can also make the Cloud Dress in a sheer fabric such as chiffon and wear it over a simple slip dress for a more elegant look.
The gingham sample dress is made from “Garden Party Olive” (52% linen/48% cotton, 6.19 oz/210 gsm) and the petrol blue sample is made from “Organic Cotton Poplin Diesel” (3.7 oz/125 gsm). Both fabrics are by Merchant & Mills from Lilly Paris. The flower sample is made from floral polyester jacquard from Nuances Fabrics.
