The French Smock is a casual classic with a wide range of design options. These includes different shapes of bibs, additional trims and curved patch pockets, along with two different front fastenings – a button placket or a zip. The choice of fastening will determine the character of your garment, and you can play with the other optional features to suit the overall look and feel of the piece.

With this pattern, you can make your own truly one-of-a-kind garment by choosing your favorite features and designing something that is personal to you. 

Sizes:  

  • Available sizes in UK 4-28. Waist from 59cm (23") to 115cm (45") and Hip from 83cm (33") to 139cm (55")

Skill Level: Intermediate

Recommended Fabric: Linen, poplin, lawn, lightweight denim and twill for a 'blouse' version. For a heavier 'outdoor layer' version you can use corduroy, denim, wool suit or a lightweight wool felt.

Pattern Format: This is a PDF pattern. Included in your download is an A4 file for at home printing, an A0 File for Copy Shop Printing, Projector files and detailed instruction files.

  • 5 x buttons (around 1.5/2.5cm) or 2 x buttons (around 1.5/2cm)
  • a 16-18cm zip
  •  thread in a colour of your choice

  • about 40cm of good quality fusing
