The Dragon Dress Up pattern has three parts to turn your little one into the perfect dragon: wings, tail and mask.
The Dragon Dress Up has a flexible fit with elastic straps and velcro fastenings allowing all parts can be worn by children of varying ages and sizes.
The mask is a beginner pattern. You can sew, but alternatively it can be glued making it a lovely project for children to join in with.
The tail pattern is suitable for enthusiastic beginners.
The wings pattern is intermediate level. The main challenge is sewing through thick layers and then turning the layers. There are plenty of diagrams and tips to help you.
An overlocker/serger can be used for some steps, but importantly, a regular sewing machine is all you need for all options.
Recommended Fabric: Wings - 50cm (½ yard) each of main fabric and appliqué fabric. You will need a lightweight woven fabric. Poplin or quilting cotton are perfect and a great choice for your first pair since they are easy to sew. Linen, chambray and silk are also good options. Knit fabrics or thicker woven fabrics are not recommended.
Tail - Most apparel fabrics will work for the tail. Fleece is a perfect choice for beginners since it is easy to sew and doesn’t fray. Light to mid-weight wovens such as cotton poplin or quilting cotton work well. Lighter denims or corduroys are also an option. Mid-Weight knit fabrics such as sweatshirt fleece can also work. Jersey is possible, but be aware that it will stretch more around the waistband so you may wish to add a larger piece of velcro.
Mask - Craft felt is the easiest option here. However, most fabrics can be used if you add interfacing to them. Non-fraying fabrics such as fleece or wool blends are best for the main body of the mask.
